dingle, land of rain and Pollock sun30-tues1

#1 Post by spindlefist »

People:Meself and Eefs

Duration: SUn- tues, bout an hour or so each day

Tide:Various levels

Weather:sidewards sheet rain and epic winds..

Bait:sandeel, mack, jelly worms and shimmer eels

Rigs:float, pulley, conger, freeline..

Results:POLLOCK, pollock, pollock

Report: So decided to shrug off the shackles of repsonibility for a few days and headed off to dingle, picked up 2 new Rhinos in ABC, the traveller for Eefs as she only fishes when I make her, and I got the 9ft specialist, these rods will now live in my car.
THe adventure started on way down, as driin between roscrea and nenagh, the van in front decided it did not need a rear left wheel, kicked it off and began skiddin all over th gaff, til it rested in the oncoming lane!! luckily we were far enough back from it and no cars were approaching as it happened. the wheel came to a stop bout 300 yards further up. scary stuff..
Anyway, back we head to fishing, got to dingle to be welcomed by a squall blowing... and it only gave up once, that was tues night when we decided to go for a few scoops instead of fishing, always the way. After being cowardly and opting for Hostel room insteadin off settin up our tnet/canoe in the front garden of hostel, we spun out to Brandon Creek, as winds were bloing over it. Conger rod out, and I freelined sandeel, eefs had float with MAck on... nothing going for free lining, but eefs got a nice 48cm Pollock in close, beat me on this session!!
This fish had a huge bite scar on it, on,y 2 puncture wounds, but you could see lost scales in the shape of the jaws that attempted to eat it, were wide, not narrow like a seal, no idea, but thought maybe a close call with a porbeagle? Had a few takes on the conger rod, but failed to hook into any.

Her pollock went back and we went off to dry off and get some kip.

Awoke Monday to more of the same, crap weather.. But it dried up a bit later, and I was out by a favourite Rock mark, thought it'd be unfishablke, but thankfully it had it's back to the wind, so we were protected and the sweel was not too bad. tide was bout an hour after high so Knew it was less dangerous, but still didnl;t venture down to the lowest platform, and glad we didn;t as, after fishing maybe 20 mins, a sweel came outta nowhere and put this under 4ft of water!! we'd have been ballsed as it wis one ya'd clamber onto. we instead fished bout 20 ft above the sea, favouring possible lost fish, than lost life. This mark did not dissappoint. Eefs was back on float with sandeel, I opted for sidewinder sandeels freelined. THe pollock were on top form! had several hits before hooking up,first was small, (see pic) , then next one medium, 2lb mark, then I got a whopper right at the base of the bottom platform just as I was gonna lift clear of water, fish hit the eel and took off, great to see a fish take line.. got a decent fight outta him, and my heart was in my mouth liftin him up to us, but got him up safelty, and only in time as it snapped line in my hand on our platform. Was 1 oz short of 5lb. Became dinner,. Eeefs meanwhile had 3 pollock , between 2- 3 lb. I had a final cast before the rains and as the jellyworm left the water a pollock threw himself after it, gettin airborne, funny to see.

wed was Crap weather , change of wind direction but no loss of blow, so we opted again for brandon creek after trying fahan, ballydavid and a few other places. Only had a tiny little pollock, but such is fishing.

tight lines

we cought a couple of big whiting with bite marks on the Clare Dragoon last Saturday during sharking off Loop Head, might have been blues hunting them - but that's only a guess.
