West Clare 29/08/09

#1 Post by Conger »

People: me & Bassmania

Duration: 19.00 to 0.30

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Calm Light Southerly Breeze

Sandeel & Fresh Lug

Rigs: Pennels and 2 hook

Results: me, 1 doggie, 2 plaice, 1 Weaverfish, Bassmania: 3 doggies, 1 Bass

Report:

Headed down to West Clare on the low tide to get some fresh lug, When we got to the marker the conditions were lovely. We both had 2 rods out, 1 at distance and 1 in close (this varied through the night). After casting we both agreed that there was one fish that we did not want on this trip and that was doggies as the last couple of trips we had been plagued by doggies (i know they save a blank but just a little break wanted :D ). Got a knock on my rod with the pennel first, low and behold what was it, doggie    , after that i got a good knock on the 2 hook rig, just a very light knock, struck in and up appears a weaverfish, not sure what species but it was goldy in colour and about 5 to 6 inches in length but hey a new species for me :D , Bassmania then got in on the act, his pennel took what can only be described as a lazy knock, and up appears another west coast doggie   , after a while Bassmanis took a good knock and after a short while up pops a bass, in around the 3lb mark :D :D , i got another new species after that in 2 small plaice, things started to quiet at around the 23.30 mark, Bassmania took another knock with the result being another doggie   that was taken on lug but even funnier was that he was chewing on a huge sandeel as he was landed. Really thought with the conditions that there would be more bass activity but it was not meant to be, we tried at different depths but hopefully better luck the next time,, sorry no photos as i left the camera on the counter and took off without it....

Regards

SEamus

Well done on the new species Seamus,

It seems so long since i had the beach rods out that even a LSD would be more then welcome if he paid me a visit... i must brush the dust off them before all the fish vanish for the winter,

Dulittle told me there's a lot of Bass being caught around ******* ***** :)

He's been gettin them under his feet at one mark and within 15ft at another so i was thinking of giving them a lash with the fly rod when i get a break from work,
