Portmuck

#1 Post by JULIO RAGWORM »

Firstly I would just like to welcome myself back onto sai after I had a 2 week ban for voicing my opinion  on an article titled "eastern european anglers risk theyre lives for a bite"

Anyhows

Went to Portmuck to try a bit of spinning with 2 mates, I however have recently taken the fly rod out of a 10 year hibernation and decided to give it a bash!
I wasnt dissapointed and was landing pollock within 3 casts they are good craic on the light gear but I was after a mackrel on it. Kenny and Rosco where just using spinners and in no time mackrel was being landed by everyone except me  but none the less I was happy with the pollock, just before it got dark I landed a pollock of around 40 cms. Dont even bother to fish portmuck in the day its very poor from experience all the good sessions is an evening tide.

Results

Me- 4 pollock, plus numerous losses
Kenny- 3 mackrel, 3 pollock and a coalie
Rosco-2 mackrel, 3 pollock

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

2010- Sea Trout, Codling, Pollock, Coalie, Whiting, Flounder, Doggies, Plaice, Dab.

Nice session. A man after my own heart.... I am busting to get at some macky's with a fly. Hard pushed to do so this year as I am finding them a little too far out and beyond my casting ability. DOH!!

cheers guys!

your right al, the pier is not good, I have fished this place for years even before the steps around the hill and that side is best. Thats the second time in a couple weeks we fished there, the previous trip was more productive, the fry and sprat where bubbling below our feet and we where catching mackrel and pollock in 6 inches of water!! Thats why I brought the fly rod, so crazyfish if you want a mackrel on the fly I suggest Portmuck.

I'm glad i found this site. Ive heard alot of bad reports on portmuck, but this session sounds good enough for me, i've never caught any other fish except those boring old mackerel but hey i cant complin ive still caught a fish.

I really wana catch Pollack and Wrasse or bass and cod.
Must give portmuck a try then. Cheers for the catch report mate.
