Andy's Connemara report Aug 09

#1 Post by kentwhite »

Well I finally made it to Leenane last week and boy was the weather up to no good. Spent a good while watching sideways rain out of the cottage window or running to and from the pub in the downpours !

Anyway, after much research and some really helpful info from Gerry (gfkelly1969) for which many thanks I was ready for some serious fishing.

I grabbed the first chance last Monday to get out on John Brittains Blue Water and although it was really rough we made it out to Innishboffin and soon had a box full of Mackies. However it was too rough to anchor out there and no good for Shark so we headed closer in to Ballynakill harbour and fished under Tully mountain where there had been reports of Skate in the commercial boys nets.

It was not to be a Skate day but boy did we catch, I lost count of the number of Rays, Dogs and Huss...all in all a great day and good company - at least I only dropped a knife over the side this year and not a rod !

Tuesday and Wednesday it rained and blew a hooley but I manage to get down to Little Killary and find some shelter but little action other than some Mackeral

Thursday and Friday Hurricane Bill arrived and the wind was just impossible so that was it - months of build up only for the weather to limit the amount of fishing I could manage in the week. Anyways, a great time was had, the Guinness flowed in Gaynors and the Irish potholes were as challenging as ever.

Thanks again to those who provided info and here's hoping I can get back over soon.
