Greystones steps 26/8/09

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Me and my mate Dec

6.30-10.20

Manky frozen Mack, rag, limpet

2 hook flappers,one up/one downs,flattie rigs,mini rigs

Tide good bit on its way out on arrival

Nice evening.

Results, Dec about 8 fish, Shore Rockling, Pollock, whiting.
Me. Bllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnk!

First stop of the day was at Viking Tackle to be greeted my Roger, have his yis heard about his Tope? I think he was telling some Spanish Students at the bus stop when were driving off. ;) ;)

He also gave me a pep talk about how there'd be no fish in Greystones, You were half right Rog! ;)

Anyways, Set up at the steps, there was one fellah set up or sitting on the rocks, he was using squid as bait, I offered him some rag but he was happy enough. The poor fellah didn't catch a thing, We could've set up a support group! Apart from the whordes of flies which were absolutely disgusting, an armada of kayakers beset upon us and ruled and any real fishing for an hour. A few swimmers too but the all asked where the lines were before dipping in so no problems there. I busied myself trying to catch a little goby in a rock pool to which I became addicted and sat for an hour trying to get him landed. He dropped off the hook about a hundred times. After the fleet left we put out the rods. Very quiet, Dec got a decent Pollock about 1lb Id say, he wanted to bring him home for tea but to spite him I put him back in the water. Fish envy is a terrible thing. Dec fished off the step side while I was lobbing one hooks into the rocks on the right, i thought I would definitely get into a wrasse but no joy. Anyone ever get a wrasse here? Fishing continued to be slow. I put out a mack head for a conger as the light faded but no joy. Bait was stripped fairly rapidly and we were hauling in crabs frequently. Had mack out at the end surprised we got no dogs especially when two lads came down bout 10 and got 2 almost straight away.

First blank in I dont know how long and first blank in Greystones!

Had my prawn pot in too, not a single prawn, the usual crab, gobie, rockling squatters.

I can only lame my rigs, Ill have to tie a load of my own. The mack we picked up in Tallaght and it was pretty manky I suspect it may have been defrosted and refrozen, the rag as the claims made in Bray was excellent.
