#1 Post by Wozza »

People myself:

Duration 14.00 to 19.00:

Tide comin in high about 8pm:

Weather fair with cloud to start then gales with rain :

Bait mack, sandeel mussels and limpet:

Rigs 2 hook(2/0) flapper, flattie rig and blue pirk spinner:

Results 1 pollack 2 poor cod (all 3 weighed 250 gms wet together):

Report
Made me way across breakwater to end, not easy jumping rocks with tackle and boxes as wanted to fish entrance to harbour as I caught there last time, but didnt bank on people with boats wanting to stay close to shore when going past me (idiots). move back and set up again got loadsa bites but nothing taking.!! then i foul hooked a poor cod on a strike, then I got a small pollack went to photo it and dropped me fone down the rocks (Feck !!) then I got another poor cod (properly hooked) then the wind lifted and waves flying up breakwater got soaked so went to sit on pontoon for an hour in hope ? had loads more bites but nothing taking. got thoroughly peed off with situation and went home

Loads of bites, but no takes to me would = hook size too big, did you try a smaller hook?

Thanks Paddyb was using a 2/0 on pre made rig in the hope of not getting any small stuff like I did anyway, did consider stepping down but carried on dreaming of the dinner plate instead of the chipper

Thanks Fisherking must meet up one day soon and you can show me where I go wrong in these waters.

2/0 is a bit on the large side, drop down to 2's and you should connect with small dabs, poor cod etc. Odd doggie or gurnard though if your lucky. Was there yesterday evening, place was mad busy with boats, eastern euros, mack bashers etc.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

I dont want to open a can of worms here, but IMHO a 2/0 is way too big for most species from the shore, I would normally use a 1/0 or 1 when gilling for Pollack from the boat, and that would be Pollack in the 3lb to 5lb range, and would use 4, 6 or even 8's for wrasse, poor cod and pout.
