Clonakilty 21/22 Aug

#1 Post by ronanohal »

Fished Friday night down in Dingle with my cousin. Stuck it out on the beach for hours with not very good conditions - flat calm and falling tide from 8:30pm until 1am without a bite. Was testing out the solunar theory and 15 mins after the major period started hit a good bite on razor. After much head shaking and stubborn resistance managed to beach a nice bass and new pb of 60cm and 5lb 1oz on razor. Stuck it out for another 2 hours or so of the rise with a couple of missed knocks but no more fish. All bites came within an hour of the major period starting.

Fished the next day at a rock mark for a few hours float fishing and picked up a couple of small pollack - nothing great but found a fantastic mark for calmer days.

Headed out again that night for more beach fishing around 11:30pm to fish the incoming tide but torrential sideways rain and heavy sea fog chased us off the beach around 2:30am with no results absolutely soaking. Weather was so bad that at one stage i couldn't see the reflective tip on the rod in my headlamp.

Not the results we were looking for but very happy with the bass on friday night and broke an embarrassingly long series of blanks recently.
Pic attached of the bass - camera phone. need to buy a waterproof dig cam.

Good work on the Bass Ronan, thats a fine fish alright. 8) It sounds like you got caught out in the same awful weather as me on Saturday, it really was dreadful. You've gotta love the Irish 'summer'.
