St Johns Point

#1 Post by Fentster »

People:Me, Der Baron and Kev

Duration:10.30am-6.45pm

Tide:Down and up again

Weather:very windy from WSW, big swell, one heavy shower.

Bait:Lug,razor,squid,black lug,sand eel,mackeral,jellies.

Rigs:Float, flappers, pulley, clip down. Surface popper.

Results:Me-2 Ballan Wrasse, 2 Crabs! Der Baron-4 Pollack, 5 Ballan Wrasse, 1 Brill, Kev-4 Pollack, 1 Brill

Report:Road trip to St Johns Point, Donegal. After an early start, arrived at the point to find the wind in just the direction we didn't need it  It effectively wrote off 99% of the fishable marks as the swell and wind was just too strong. None of us had been there before so after a bit of exploring we found the ledge over the large gulley provided us with a fishable mark though the windage was still a concern as my rod rest blew over more than once! The tide was starting to drop as we started and Der Baron was first off the mark with a small Pollack. During the day we took turns picking up Ballan and Pollack of various sizes, mostly small, pics attached of the best ones. The one thing that surprised me was the lovely colouration of the fish, particularly Der Barons larger Pollack and Ballan Wrasse. The Wrasse had very strong turquoise colours, especially inside it's mouth.
Having been blown about for many hours and not caught the huge fish we were hoping for   we headed back down the road. The little beach on our right was very sheltered so having come this far we set up there for an hour or so. Der Baron noticed a small knock early on and pulled in a nice little Brill. Kev landed it's infant a short time later ! :D :D :D All I got was 2 dirty great crabs hanging off my hooks as reeled in
A good trip and definitely worth another visit on a more settled day :D

 That gulley is a tackle graveyard, between us we lost 5 floats and 7 other rigs!
