Cork Harbour Marks 17th and 20th August

#1 Post by rory from cork »

Out last night chasing bass and was expecting a stormer with the weather and new moon creating the perfect conditions...started fishing right before darkness into a lovely surf with rag and crab and was joined shortly after by Paul and Eoghan. Had what looked like a few flattie bites first on the rag but didn't connect. Eoin had a bass on his first cast I think with frozen razor...a lovely fat fella about 4-4.5lb and I think I remember him telling me that it was his first this year so I'm posting a pic of him with it :)

All went quiet for about an hour and and the dreaded weed appeared...at this stage I was struggling trying to keep one rod out with the weed dragging the lines across the beach and tangling traces...was busy tying a new one when I noticed my other rod hopping..another nice fat bass about 4.5lb. Just after that Paul dropped one in the surf and I thought we were on for a good one but the weed kept getting worse...tried moving further along the beach, wading out into the surf and holding the rod but it was fustrating work. Before we left I pulled in a big lump of weed and surprised to find a schoolie at the end of it...hadn't even noticed the bite.

Was also out earlier in the week with the lure and float rod...tried out the Patchinko in ghost silver and xorus phospho for the first time...nice lure and it casts really well. Had one on the silver, missed a lunge and had a few interested swirls..no interest in the phospho. Also had 1 on the float rod with rag.

That's it for now...fishing pass used up for the week
