Whiting Bay 15th Aug 09
People: a few
Duration: 9pm to 1 am
Tide: 2ish
Weather: Clear skies and little or no surf
Bait: Sandeel, razor
Rigs: Cascade pennel 2/0 & 1/0
Results: 1 dog, 1 painted ray
Report: A beautiful night to be out but too calm for decent beach fishing. A few people decided to go canoeing in front of me as I set up. It always amazes me that they have the whole beach but must always go in front of the anglers, anyway no harm done they moved off before it got dark. I had dog before dusk and thought that it was going to be doggie bashing again like my last trip to red barn a couple of weeks earlier. But not a bite until 11am when I got my first painted ray, had a few thornies before but was delighted to get the ray on sandeel. All went quite after that and packed up after 1am.

Well done. I took a drive to Whiting Bay last Saturday for the first time. I didn;t go fishing just took a drive to see what the beach was like.
I'm not sure if i was in the right place. Is the beach where you have quite a long walk down a narrow road that leads to the beach.
The water looked lovely but there were many poeple swimming etc so wasn;t sure if that is where you fish.
I want to try fishing at White Bay hopefully over the weekend. Do you fish off the shore or do you have to go off the rocks.
Seems like if you get onto the rocks when the tide is out you may not be able to come back onto the shore when the tide is in.
Can anyone tell me exactly where is the best place to fish at White Bay. That is if i have the correct place........
Cheers ,
I'm still waiting for my first Bass

There were a good few painted ray caught that night, 1 flounder to size ( a few undersize ) and dogs, no bass though.

Nice ray there, well done.Theres been plenty of flatties on my last few trips there, had a lash for the ray the last few times on the slack tides but not a touch so fairplay.Interestingly no sign of the silvery fellows despite the perfect surf conditions, lots of the flats i've been catching are only 10 to 15yds out,no real sizeable fish though but good fun on the lighter gear.

Apologies Lads,
I think I was confused with White Bay in Cork. If anyone knows much about White Bay in Cork you might drop me a reply.
Just wanted to know whether it is worth fishing and what locations of the beach are best.
Thanks
Dean.
