catching big fish

lads recently hooked a huge fish had it for about 5 minutes but it broke the wire trace does this happen often should i use a new trace each trip as i had used this one day before took in a haul of doggies and huss no prob. hate to see them escape with 10/o meat hook still in there mouth

dont know it tore off around the boat very fast was fishing at over 100ft and the gear i was useing should have been good enough to land most fish it pulled off a good bit of line 60lb mono but it was the wire that broke in half not the line

We've hooked a couple this year fishing for tope. Seems to be in more murky water. They seem to be able to avoid the bait with ease in clear water.

could be although we dident see any seals and we were3 hrs out there what ever it was done a great job on cuttig the wiretrace

more than likely a porgy i would say, blues dont normally get big enough to do that i dont think.

there has to be something here like a large preditor the seals are all on the rocks are not approaching the boats and the macks have all disappeared from around the island would a porgie attack a seal?

As far as I can recall watching a TV thing a porgie do eat seals, Maybe it were a great white :?: and they DO eat seals :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Wish one would come into Carlingford lough, plenty to eat there
