That's some amount of fishing lads well done to all ... unlucky with the smuts but great fishing at Wicklow some amount of species and fish caught well done Jordan and Dave for getting new species Congrats Jordan showing Dad how to do it again very sorry to hear about your gear Neil sounds like a Tope by the speed of it or possibly a seal very unlucky what type of Zziplex was it?

Good to meet yous fishing was slow but had some laugh pity about the weed but there's always next time we stayed till 1 wit no joy with the congers we will have to sort another session out soon and make sure the weather is right

great pictures, sorry to here of neils misfortune with his special rod (start using the ratchets neil)
he is a very kind and generous man he even set up his shelter for a guy i fish with because he was feeling a bit cold on brittas bay recently.

Glad you all enjoyed the trip and the pressies . Pity you didnt get your gurnards at Wicklow but we all had a great days fishing, i made it 12 species in all.Weather was good too which is always a bonus ,and great that you did the report Al ,thanks . I was going to do it last nite but went fishing instead . Pity about Neils Zippy, bad enough to lose the rod and reel, but you'd always be wondering what you might have had on it . He didnt deserve that, and him so generous to others, but i'm sure he'll bounce back and turn up with some out of this world piece of kit . Heres some more pics, just in case there arent enough in this report already ,

thanks dave we had a blast. just a shame about neil's rod the guy spends more time helping other anglers than what he dose fishing himself..... so it was a real kick in the teeth to see his rod and reel be dragged off into the horizon at speed by something and just about an hour before it there were loads of small boats at the mouth of the harbour. but when it happened there was'nt another boat in the water to be seen. typical!!

Great report and pics and a good haul of fish, well done! It's as well Jordan wasn't holding that rod when it took off otherwise he would have been barefooting! Shame about the gear but at least no one injured

cheers fenton. just as well he was'nt holding the rod . i know him to well,, he would'nt have let it go while there was a fish attached to the other end the fish, the rod and reel and jordan would have all dissappeared off into the horizon

thanks to all for the nice comments, could not use the ratchet as the run on the tide was to great and to hold bottom was hard , as there was so many fishing i did not want to drift and snag everyone on the pier as i was at the north end who knows someone might find it and as its one of a kind ill never be able to replace it will have to start saving and get a new one that is similar, once again thanks to all for there kind words, hope to see you alan and jordan soon

still no sign of it then neil??? if someone dose find it and starts to use it, they'll not be hard to spot as there are'nt too many 15ft zippys that are 20 years old around in use in the wicklow area. i really hope it turns up as you do so much for others and ask for nothing in return fingers crossed mate it will be washed up on a wicklow beach and returned.

reckon it was a nice tope neil, best way to use the ratchet there is to use it with the star drag basically turn the ratchet on and slowly release the star drag till it starts taken line and then a tiny bit back till it stops,

reckon your right dennis. the thing that splashed on the surface as the rod got dragged off was long and slim. almost sure it was'nt a seal . well as sure as you can be from 140 yards out.

love the pics and the report super stuff lads sorry to hear about fishfaces gear takes a lot of savin for quality gear like that maybe organise a mini comp to give him a digout

we'd be well up for that mate. like i said, neil spends more time helping others when he's out. he really did'nt deserve what happened

it just serves as a warning to let your drag off even if you're not targeting the big fellas. i recently got a conger on a 3 hook flapper baited with wee strips of mack intended for flatties in lenan. just as well i had the rod in my hand when it hit or i could have lost a rod and reel myself

cheers frank. it's only the second time i've ever seen a rod get taken out to sea. the first time was my own at ballylumford a few weeks back. my rod was dragged out by a jet ski at full throttle. neil's was taken by some sort of fish, but there was'nt much difference in the speed so it must have been some lump of fish

dublin and wicklow are local marks only 2 and 3 hours down the road having free accomodation in bettystown helps too

thanks minty. don't tempt me a boat with a 3 berth cabin would suit us down to the ground only problem is that everyone i know who has a boat keeps telling me horror stories about always having wee problems with them that end up being very costly to sort out. so for now we'll stick to the shore my next door neighbour reckons we spend more time by the sea than the gulls do are you making it up to the comp this weekend??? we'll dig some lug for you in case you are man and we'll see you there
