mayo fishing, 6th 8th and 9th aug

#1 Post by doggie3131 »

People:jason and i

Duration:2pm 11pm

Tide:high 8.40pm

Weather:not bad sw wind

Bait:mackerel and sandeel sausage

Rigs:many

Results:jason, turbot? doggie, me, doggies

Report:three reports in one, went to bethra beach on the 6th and 8th to catch mackerel, the bait fridge was long empty and we had got the nod that the mackys were in there, the nod was right, 95 macky in two hours, over the two nights, :D :D we had to stop fishing for them as we had two much, and only one bag!!bait fridge well on the way to being full :D :D

sun 9th decided to hit a mark near currean where we both got a mullet, got set up with one rod out at distance, and one float fishing for mullet, ten minutes in jasons float took off at speed, mullet on,wahoo!! it was a good fish and gave him a great scrap on the light rod,he tired it out and then came the problem landing it,no net again  he tried to beach it on the rock with the waves, but no joy :x i then tried to lift it out by grabbing the trace and as i lifted it he came off   it was easly over 5lb,i was mortifed!!jason was just drunk off,but at the fish, not me :roll:he rebaited but there was no more intrest for either of us,about an hour later,as he reeled in the distance rod to rebait, he discovered a turbot?on the hook :D :D new species for him then, all i had got in the meantime was a doggie :( we then moved to another spot that had produced the goods for us last week, but this proved to be a mistake as over the next three hours we only got a few doggies each  but thats the way it works i suppose, jason went home a happy man and i was just jelous

Congrats to the new species and getting the bait fridge filled up, well done, nice report and pictures to boot as well 8)
In regard to the mullet, doesn't it count as landed when you have the fish brought ashore as far so you can touch the trace?  Just a thought, for consolidation purposes :)
