bray head? could've been the wexford estuary too, got lost

#1 Post by eric »

People:me and wayne, kept calling him shane all day

Duration:the day

Tide: on the ebb

Weather:not bad bit of drizzle at times :P

Bait: big ones, whole squid, mackerel, sandeel

Rigs: pulleys and up and overs

Results: me 1 ray bout 4lbs, 1 conger about 3lbs
wayne 2 ray to about 4lbs

Report: really nice day, got a photo of a ray with some 'identifiable piece of shoreline for boycie, lost a few cracking fish to snags including a ray that was definitley a double, judging by the amount of time and effort it took to get find him a hiddy hole on the way in, he was a non budger once he bedded in, tried giving him slack but to no avail, also lost a conger of about 10lbs on the edge, had him half way out of the water when he decided to go back in again, eventually unhooking himself. wayne had his rod pulled over twice but missed both fish, eventually broke his duck with a livley little male off about 3lbs, the next fish managed to drag his rod on the ground after yanking it out of the stand eventually he got his second fish in, didnt think 4lb ray could do that? last cast for me had me into another decent fish which also fell victim to a snag. despite using man rods, 20lbs mainlines and 80lb shocks the ground took its toll on me, didnt remember the mark being that bad. still a good day was had. wayne photoshop those mofos i dont want and an angry limerick-i mean wexford man after me

Nice one on the ray man, it's always good to get out after a long period and get into a few decent fish like that. Seems that part of the world is a gold mine for the sheer variety of species.

When i fished there lost a good bit of gear too, so god knows what the rough ground Gearoid is talking about would be like, the lads in viking tackle would be rubbing their hands alright.

Its only the ledge that causes tackle losses here, either side of low water its fine, but otherwise give it a good whack out and try and keep the rod fairly high. its a real shame this mark doesnt produce the big fish everyday like it used to.
