Strangford Lough Mullet - 09/08/09

#1 Post by KERRY1 »

People: Me, K2 & Dawsey

Tide: On the rise, over high and down to low

Weather: Warm with the odd light shower

Bait: Bread

Rigs: Float

Result: 1 mullet for K2

Myself and K2 went to the mark were we where joined by Dawsey.
There wasn't many fish showing at first but then it got good with shoals of fish appearing in front of us.
As soon as Dawsey showed up and the first decent sized group of fish showed, K2 cast into them and hooked his fish!
It gave a good fight for itself before surrending into the net.
It weighed approx. 4 and a half pounds but with no scales with us that's only a guess but it was at least that.
A picture can be seen below.
We all continued to get bites but no more fish where caught at the first mark and so we moved on to the second place.
Again, there was fish about but they weren't hanging around for very long and by the time we got into the water to get to them they where too far away to even try and fish for them.
We then decided that we should try another mark, a low water mark that K2 and myself have been to before and where there has been good numbers of fish gathering.
Once down, we spotted fish straight away and so we began fishing for them. They tended to hang around the other side of the bank were we where fishing and so K2 decided that he would wade over to get closer to them.
When he got over he called over to us that the water was bubbling on down where he was standing and when Dawsey heard this he decided he would brave it and wade over too, despite having leaky chest waders.
That's when the fun began, I haven't laughed so much in along time. The further dawsey got out into the water the more water he was taking in his waders, by the time he got out over to the other side he was soaked and had water down his left boot.
We all got bites etc. but no fish were caught and so we headed back to the cars.
When we got there dawsey took off his waders and the water that came out of them was mad.
I think by the end of the session he had more water in his waders than there was at the mark we where fishing!!
A good session was had by all lasting nearly six hours at three different locations.

I couldn't believe you missed those bites mate, your float was buried out off site.
They were like mackerel bites!
Let's blame Norman, it was his glasses that distracted you, might as well blame somebody if you can
