ramore head portrush

#1 Post by minty »

People:gadsac club comp

Duration:2-7.00pm

Tide:rising

Weather:fairly good

Bait:rag and mack

Rigs:everything i had

Results:conger 5 1/2 lb, 3 wrasse and 2 pollack

Report:

Met up with the lads from the club and and got set up on the rocks, was ready about 1.30 so decided to have a few casts before the 2.00pm start. Within minutes the rod was nodding, struck in to the bites but lost it bringing it back through the weed, another lump of mack was quickly put on and blasted out. I did'nt have time to sit when the rod went again, only this time i got it through the weed and seen what i thought was a decent doggie, it was only when i got in to the edge i nearly shat myself when i realised it was a decent sized conger   . I've never been close to one of these chappies let alone caught one, after a few deep breath's i got it up on the rocks, after a few snaps and weighing it, it was very carefuly released :D .
Quick smoke got the nerves sorted and was i ready for the start of the comp, things did'nt go so well from here. I lost a rig a cast and snapped the handle off my reel   while getting through the weed, switched to the float and this seemed to be the better option as i landed a few wrasse, although they were under sized to be classed as counters  . Then i landed a nice wee pollack of 27cm, my first counter of the day and also my last, as i only landed a couple of under sized one's till at about 6.30 i lost the float set-up too.
Decided to call it a day and packed up, happy with the fact i'd caught my first ever conger :D caught my first ever wrasse then landed a bigger one ( not much bigger ) :D and caught my first pollack this year :D . So all in all it was a nice session for me besides only having the 1 counter.
