Strangford Lough Mullet - 27/07/09 & 29/07/09

#1 Post by KERRY1 »

People: Me and K2

Weather: Mixed with sunshine and showers

Tide: On the flood

Rig: Float

Bait: Bread

Results: Kerry1 - 2 mullet K2- 2 mullet

I am only getting around to putting this report up now as I have been working all week full-time during the day (it's gotta be done :( )and then heading straight out from there mullet fishing.
This is the first night the weather has been bad enough to stop us going out.
We used the same tactics on both nights, throwing bread in to encourage the fish to feed. There was a good presence of fish on both nights and they were feeding well on the bread that we were throwing in.
On the first night within 40 minutes I caught my two fish. Both gave a good fight despite them only being caught at the edge of where I was standing.
One weighed approx. 4lbs with the other about 3.5lbs. K2 didn't catch any fish on the first night but he made up for it on the second night.
His first fish was a nice size of approx. 4.5lbs but his second one was amazing!
It easily weighed over the 5lb+ mark. It was brilliant to see a fish of this size being caught and then released to live another day.

Great fish you 2, especially that one of Norman's ! I haven't had a chance to get out Mulletting since my hols due to work/weather and a bit of shore work. Off to Cork on Tuesday for a couple of days with my 2 young lads so hopefully I will be able to add a Bass to my first year list! Hope to get back to trying for my first Mullet after that.
Well done again :)

Some people just can't be happy for you, eh Davy?
That must work both ways, you have very small hands and short arms which means that your fish look bigger than they actually are
If norman's hands are like shovels and his arms are really long, then his fish really must be a monster to still be that size against them
Thanks to everyone else for your comments, it was a great week we both had. Bring on the next session :D

Don't even bother, the two of you really put me off the other night - I felt really wick
You two together are bad enough when you's are sober never mind what you's would be like with alcohol - I really hate to think
K2 and I went to Annalong harbour first thing this morning and then on the way back we stopped at Dundrum but there wasn't very many fish about at either place. Abit disappointing but good to get away for the day.
See you soon at one of the mullet marks no doubt, hopefully you will be fishing - NOT SLAGGING. If I was to say what I think you are better at - fishing or slagging? I would without a doubt say - Slagging.

Thankyou very much, it was a great two nights of mullet fishing we both had. I was busy winding K2 up on Monday night when I caught my two fish and he blanked but boy am I suffering for it now.
On wednesday night the mullet where like buses - they aren't there when you need them, then two come along at once  and his second one was a double decker

It did give K2 a very good scrap, I think Tom H and I thought he was playing it a little too much but once we seen the size of it when it was landed we then understood why he was taking it really easy with it
You would have cried to lose a fish like that for the sake of rushing it in.
He only had 4lb line on his hook length and so had to take it really easy or it could have broke free
