North Down 28/7/09

#1 Post by Fentster »

People: Me, Der Baron + Adam

Duration:2.30pm-5.30pm

Tide:HT 5.15pm

Weather:Dry at first then very wet......Force 5 gusting 6 South Easterly

Bait:Freshly dug Strangford lug.

Rigs:Me 2 hook flapper, Der Baron 2 hook paternoster

Results:Me-3 Ballan Wrasse, 2 Corkwing Wrasse, 2 Pollack. Der Baron+Adam-5 Ballan Wrasse (1 lovely one), 1 Corkwing Wrasse, 1 Codling

Report:Having planned the trip the day before we went off to the sludge :? in the morning at Ards to dig some worms. Got a few but by god that's hard work! Thankfully Der Baron has ordered a pump....
Headed off to our intended mark only to find it inhabited by macky bashers, so plan B was implemented. Arrived and set up in a strong breeze but thankfully not a big swell though I did catch a rogue wave a bit later...
Der Baron was only in 5 minutes when he got a great knock on his first rod, 30 feet off the rocks. A short time later a very nice 42 cm Ballan Wrasse was landed :D . Well, that started it, we both then had a fairly frantic next hour with some nice fish. It went quiet for a while before a couple of Corkwing Wrasse showed up and a couple of Pollack for myself. Paul managed a small Codling too which surprised us a bit! A very enjoyable day despite getting wet and a bit cold at the end and a nice selection of fish (all returned safely). There is something very satisfying about catching fish on your own dug bait

A very special hat indeed, straight from the Champs Elysee, on the last stage of the tour, last year. Bringing me a bit of luck, as well. Cycling being the other love of my life.

And yes a very special Wrasse indeed, quality fight, on light tackle, and a quality fish. Me and the son chuffed to bits!
