Galway Bay Wrasse & More 23.07.09
People: stevecrow74 & myself
Duration: 16:00 - 22:30
Tide: HT @ 18:55 height 5.8m
Weather: Couple of showers otherwise fine no wind of any note
Bait: Mackerel & Squid
Rigs: simple ledgers size 4's and 6's and animal gear
Results: Ballan Wrasse, Female Cuckoo Wrasse, Rock Cook, Tompot Blenny, Conger, Coalfish, Pollack, Long Spined Sea Scorpion, Whiting
Report: Met Steve for coffee and one thing led to another and the temptation of a session was too much for even a half crippled musician to take... so with that it was off to pick up some bait and steves spinning rod... we headed for a mark in Galway Bay and straight away we were into fish steve was in first with a ballan his first of the year followed by myself with my first of the year a PB Ballan of 3lbs 3ozs steve had a nice one of 2lbs 7ozs then the Tompot Blenny show started with steve getting into double figures for them... i set up a conger rod and sure enough after about 20mins landed a conger of 2lbs 2ozs ... steve was up for a conger so he had the next crack at them and lost a nice fish on the surface around the 6/7lb mark ... back down went another chunk of mack and not too long after he'd a conger of 4lbs 11ozs... then a surprise wrasse a female cuckoo steves first form the shore followed by a couple of rock cook again a first for steve i think... i got a cracking conger on brought him up to the surface and trying to hand line him the line snapped must've been frayed from the rocks... steve estimated about the 12lb mark... got another of 3lbs 13ozs and with that put the conger rod away as the tide had dropped a lot... steve picked up a scorpion fish and i'd a whitting ... we'd plenty of pollack and coalfish too... it was a hectic session and we lost count of the numbers but steve was in the late 20's and myself the mid teens... was great craic on light gear and will be back there shortly for more...steve has the pics.

great little session.. also great to get out in my condition.. especially after seeing the physio earlier in the morning..
surprised by the amount of tompots i caught.. the baits sometimes didnt even hit bottom when i was catching them...
first shore caught cuckoo wrasse.. and first ever rock cook.. new species on the list for me

Well done, great variety of species.
Not sure about the conger kissing though
I thought Eric was the only one into kissing fish - I hope its not contagious.

Re: Galway Bay Wrasse & More 23.07.09
busy wee session conor
. nice one on the new p.b. too. sometimes fishing at you're feet is a hell of a lot more productive than fishing out at distance
. a trend that seems to be all over the country at the moment.

Cheers lads was good craic... was happy for "hoppy" that he got out and caught can't be easy not being able to get out there and watching everyones reports going up... as for the fish kissing just showing a bit of solidarity with the eric & the east coast lads .... but they've very kissable lips them conger.... (i know i need to stop fishing and go to a night club)
