Co.Kerry Species report - March 2009 & May 2009

#1 Post by KERRY1 »

People: Me & K2

Tide: All types

Bait: Lugworm, Razorfish, Sandeels & Live Crab

Methods: Plugging, lure fishing, spinning, bait fishing off the bottom & float fishing

Weather: Mixed

Duration: Approx. ten days on each trip

Results: A variety of species (photographs can be seen below)

Here are a few pictures of me and K2's recent fishing trips down to Co.Kerry.
We went in March this year and then went back again at the start of May (before the closed season for the Bass).
We used a variety of different methods during our time there to try and maximise our chances of catching a number of different types of fish.
We mainly concentrated on bait fishing at night for the bass but we did target other species during the day as well such as seatrout, flounder and wrasse.
All of our fishing was carried out from the shore and all of the species we caught were released back in unharmed
Conservation is very important to me.
We go back down again to the same area in September of this year for another ten days and we both can't wait :)

Tell me about it, could you imagine catching Bass at Ballyholme beach or Thornback Rays off Bangor Pier!!
Unfortunately you have to travel these days to get half decent fish :(
Thankyou everyone for your comments, hopefully there will be more off the same to come when I get back from my trip to Kerry in September :D

nice sessions! just back from Caherciveen area last week and nothing great to report. Plenty of doggies and mini species but the bass were elusive. Even more surprising was we failed to even hook up with a mackeral from any of the usual good rock marks.
i get by with a little help from my friends.

I am glad you all like our pictures.
I put them up because I wanted to show ya's the type of fishing both K2 and I enjoy the most which is going down to Co.Kerry mainly for the Bass but for other species as well.
We both do tend to go on about Co.Kerry and Bass fishing quite alot to our friends and others we know but who can blame us, the fishing down there is amazing :D
