I concur.
Fishing can be great at the end of the Pier in Dun Laoighire but its a long walk and a not exactly "getting away from it all" . Either of the beaches in Greystones can fish well if there isn't a load of weed about. You could also try the harbour in Greystones or Wicklow for ease of access and parking etc. or head down the Wexford direction and fish any of the numerous beaches, coves or rocky outcrops. Maybe a few here will share their "secret marks" in order to start you off on a high. You can of course look at all the reports and try to garnish some location information from them but many are too vague and can be mis leading. Your best bet is to PM a couple of the more experienced anglers on this forum and hopefully they can steer you in the general direction of some decent fishing. Dublin can be tough especially during the day but with some research and some PM'ing I'm sure you will discover a few decent marks.

high brian, dun laoghaire pier is your best bet, i basically grew up on the east pier spending many an afternoon with grand pa gasparro float fishing for mackerel and the odd garfish, as well as this you have a load of minis, wrasse and pollock down along the wall. my favourite spot has always been the last bend down by the steps, though the pier is generally uniform in features. for the minis a single hook flapper made with a blood loop and size 6 hook is the way to go. pop a small piece of rag just enough to cover the hook and drop it along the wall. bites are istantaneous! float fishing for the mack is just as easy, start with a 8 foot stop knot and adjust it till you find where the mack are feeding. a thin strip of squid or mack are th best baits. best thing about this sopt is that is almost always sheltered and is quite safe for kids.

The tackle and bike shop in DL village just off the cobble stoned part of the road opposite the church, beware the parking wardens

ok since theres no beach in dalkey wel right that one off, killiney and bray will be tough to scratch out a few fish, especially given the recent southerlies, trust me dun laoghaire pier will be blank free, if you pop into me before hand, (we are located on the base of patrick st just off the main road by the church) il set you up with the appropriate gear, we also stock fresh and frozen bait.
