Report:Went to Wicklow harbour after work to be met by a rough enough sea which eventually lapped over the edge of the pier . I set up with 2 rods at first but gave up on the beachcaster as it was continually getting knocked over with weed . I did get a few whiting and pollock on it but they were small and i was getting bigger in close so packed it away and concentrated on the small rod. Everyone else was feathering for macks with no success. It was hard enough to feel the bites as the wind was blowing sideways across the pier. I had thought that the wall here would shelter me but no joy there. I got a couple of pollock around the 25cm mark and plenty of corkwing wrasse so i was happy to be catching a few but when the bag off my small rod blew into the water i decided to pack up .I rang fishface to tell him it was quite rough. He suggested moving to the other pier so when i fished my bag out of the water i moved to the pier on the other side of the harbour. Fishface was there when i arrived and we decided to have a minis competion,, and i do mean minis . I caught the first fish, a small codling but when Neil got set up with his sabiki mini hook rig it was soon 9-1 to him . . He gave me one of these rigs and I soon caught up with him (even though he was fishing 2 rods ). We had enough of this after about 20 fish each and called it a draw. I walked around different parts of the pier and no matter where i dropped one of these rigs, i got hit instantly. The nibbles that you'd feel on a size 4 hook felt like a thump on these hooks. Neil had a tiny rod so he got a good scrap from even the smallest fish , though he was getting some decent dabs also. I changed to bigger hooks but guess what, i caught smaller whiting. There didnt seem to be any wrasse on the new pier but i cant wait to go back to try for some on the sabikis on the other pier.

For the rich, there is therapy. For the rest of us, there is FISHING! --
Good fishing Dave, I tried a bit of mini species fishing myself yesterday. Started out fishing with a 2/0 hook, something was stealling the bait so reduced to a size 1, same thing, reduced to a size 4, still could not hook up. I found the rig is used on holidays in Crete with size 10 hooks - this time it worked!! - I caught a minute pollock followed by 3 small corkwing wrasse.
