Tim jim,
Can be quite cheap to make your own ....if you have the time, Making your own can range from cutting the handle off a spoon and attaching some split rings, a swivel and treble to making something that looks like a professionally made rapala with the availability of pre finished plug bodys. Here are some links for lure making:

Go to the lures section, then lure making resources

german sprat
thanks lads for the information, ive been wondering about home made spinners and lures myself, and that site was great, its translated to english on http://www.lurefishinguk.com i think this is the site. But more to the point, are german sprats still sueful for spinning?and is it just mackerel,or the odd pollack,r can they be used for bass, etc??
I'm in the north west, so spinning for bass doesn't happen. Don't know if German sprats are any good for bass, they are good for Pollock. Silver wedges are definately good for bass though. You can get them cheap from http://www.euro-tackle.com/ they also have loads of other great bargains and shipping is quick and free. If you buy their wedges though you will have to add a swivel where you attach the line. Don't know why this is missing, I've seen some in Harris without the swivel as well, if you use them without the swivel you will swist the hell out of your main line resulting in loads of tangles.
I fixed the link above so that it goes to the English version of the site, sorry about that.

Used home made spinners by using brass bar about 8mm Dia and 3" long, with the ends cut at 45degrees. drill 3mm hole on each end for connecting split rings etc.
Have caught Pollack, Coalfish, Mackerel, Sea Trout and a couple bass using it on the north antrim coast.
Only had to pay for the trebles & split rings.

I find that the german sprat are the best lures up here in Donegal for shore pollock. Have landed plenty of big pollock up to 8lb with these lures and managed to land a 10lb pollock from st. johns point about two years ago. I still use them and they are still very affective!! :D

I make my spinners from desert spoon handles. split ring in each end either single or trebel hook. Then bend slightly. Body of spoons are made into flounder spoons ar ling lures.
These spoons can usuall obtained from some of the euro shops at about 4 for 2 euro
Anice cheap way to make lures all that it really costs is time
