West Coast Bass 15.07.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: baitdigger & myself

Duration: 18:30-00:00

Tide: HT @ 23:00ish

Weather: Wind form the West force 3-4 odd shower

Bait: Lug and Razor

Rigs: various

Results: Bass

Report: Met baitdigger at the mark in West Clare and got set up. There was weed in the water in close it seemed to be just hanging in the first shelf of surf and we only picked it up on the retrieve which wasn't too bad the baits were holding so we were in with a chance. The wind pushing in from the West was kicking up a nice bit of surf and it looked very "Bassy".... nothing was doing for hours which left us scratching our heads as with the surf coming in there should've been Bass showing we were thinking.... as darkness fell and the tide approached full baitdigger spotted a bang on one of my rods just as well i was too busy yapping.... ran over and sure enough i'd a slack liner picked it up reeled in and a little schoolie was landed quick pic the off he popped.... not too long after baitdigger had a good rattle but no hook up then a few mins later another good rattle this time there was fish on and another schoolie came in quick pic and he went back to join his pals.... we both missed another few bites which on another day would've resulted in 4 Bass each buts thats fishing...we were happy to have acquired the target species even if they were little uns but the mark is capable of very big fish on its day...

Well done on getting the bass.
That damn weed seems to be everywhere at the moment - I had a look at a good bass mark yesterday evening but it was unfishable. I tried a bit of surface plugging from the rocks close to the beach but after 20 minutes lost the plug

Everything was right but the fish never turned up. I will be out at first light tomorrow at the mark I looked at before I met you.

Connor the council will need a court order to get you removed from the beaches lately! Fair play for the effort you're putting in.

Well done on catching your Bass.
It's been May since I fished for them and it won't be until September again when I go to Co.Kerry that I get another go at them.
Great to see that you are getting rewarded for all the time and effort you are putting in.
Don't you look happy in the photo  and why not?
