[b]Report
:
Once again a family weekend took us to Castlegregory, arrived around 8pm to flat calm conditions, set off at 1am to a marker that i was given for fresh lug, once i had that done i came back into castlegregory, i was given a marker but when i set off there was a fairly boisterous crowd drinking in one of the sand dunes so i changed plan and set up at the mouth of a small river that i had fished previous. within a few minutes of setting up the 2 rods i was getting a bit of gear ready when the bell on one of the rods rattled like mad, landed a lovely 3lb kerry bass, shortly after rebaiting and setting the rod off it went again, this time a 1.5lb bass so i set him on his way, i noticed when i was recasting there was a huge amount of activity near the mouth of the river, took a walk over and spooked a very good size bass, concentrated on this area for a good while but had no takers, was kicking myself for not bringing any spinning gear, while i was cursing myself i heard one of the rods rattle, struck in not knowing what to expect as this rod was a little further out and up appeared my first ever Painted Ray, was s small little fella but definately thought that as a species he seemed much more aggressive than the thornback variety !!!!!! Things went quiet for a while when again rod tip got a good rattle left it develope as i had struck early i little while before and lost, when it rattled again struck in and again a very aggressive fight and up came another painted ray, at his stage it was 7.30am and i knew the family would be waking up so packed things up and left, but not bad for a nights fish where i had only every caught a flattie before !!!!

Regards

Seamus

Well done on catching your Bass and Painted Ray.
I have fished Castlegregory a few times and have got bass most times when I was there.
Co.Kerry has so much to offer anyone wanting to catch a variety of different species, it's a fishermen's (or women's) dream.
