ray or pollack for a good fight

i have met a lot of anglers who have said that they would love to catch a ray and that they heard that the ray are great fighters,i have caught a lot of ray myself and don't think they fight that good,i think a good pollack fights better

in your opinion which do you think fight better ray or pollack

well i have never caught big pollock there isn t many place down my way but some ray fight hard and more don t so i will go with ray

but have caught a few pollock last yr and i thought the 1 i caught at about 4lb was going to brake my wrist

i'v got a lot of both over the years, and pollock are by far the best fighter!!!

i would have to say a pollock thay fight like hell were ray seem to be more like a heavy weight at the end of the line just my opinion

I only use light tackle for pollack and even the small ones scrap really well. Some rays come in like plastic bags other rays use the current and hang on. I recently caught a stingray of about twelve pounds and it put up possibly the best scrap Ive ever had.

From the shore a 10lb Ray hasn't got much tide to hold in so if u catch one from a shallow beach with no tide then u will no how lazy they are

there's no real choice between them as most ray will just glide in, unless they decide to dig there nosi in and you have to literally drag them in.. whereas pollock will always put up a fight..
having said that my pb thornie did decide to swim for it and its hard to stop a ray when its on the move, especially a ray of 14lbs, all i could do at the time was give it line while trying to turn it when it stopped, but as soon as it stopped it just came to the surface and ski'd in the rest of the way..

now a ray on very light equipment is something else.. but then again so are pollock.. wouldn't recommend doing this but i have used an 11' spinning rod with a mag525 2oz lead and a whole sandeel.. have caught a few 3-5lbs ray doing that and its fun when they swim, but does put alot of strain on the rod if they do dig in, and have done the same for pollock minus the lead and added a float, caught my PB shore pollock 8.5lbs and that was a fight to remember..

now if the poll was bass and mullet.. that would be a hard choice!!!

I find most ray just come after an inital surge. pollack they will fight like made.

my top fighter is a wrasse on light gear.

Would have said Pollack as most of the Thornies that i have caught never really fought hard that was until i caught my first painted ray last week and he seemed like a completely different fish, felt it was far more aggressive than the thornie variety, is this just my imagination or has anyone else found this

I have been lucky enough to catch both pollock and rays and it is my opinion that pollock fight better.
I would love to catch a pollock on the fly rod, I believe that's even better sport.
Rays just tend to come in like a dead weight with little fight, it's like pulling a fridge in (not that I have pulled one in before but you know what I mean).
However, I agree that the painted ray do put up a better fight than the thornbacks, my partner caught one from a beach last year and he found it more feistier than any of the thornbacks he had caught before.

I caught about 10 pollock this weekend on a light trout spinning rod using a silver condor bar and I didn't think they fought well at all, all around 1lb in size so not huge but still I thought they gave very light fight and just lay still while I reeled them in to the boat. I was fishing in quite deep water so I wasn't sure whether the sudden change in depth affected them?
