Surf Fishing Gear

#1 Post by trouble »

Hi Lads,

Got given a voucher for a tackle shop recently. Plan on buying chest waders and hopefully a rod suitable for surf fishing.Probably have to add a few bob to cover both I'm sure.

Any ideas what to look for in the waders? Material, treatments , linings anything like that?
What price range are they for a reasonable but not top quality set? Ocassional use only.

Same question with regard to the surf rod. I assume something light enough to hold for long periods ?how long? I would be targeting bass around Castlegregory or Inch.
Any ideas of good makes? Again not looking for top quality but something for ocaasional use.
Top quality would be wasted on me as I wouldn't appreciate the difference just yet I think.
I've been using a cheap beachcaster and its too heavy and awkward.

As usual any help is welcome!

As for waders Breathable ones are the best esp when fishing in the summer and wear your thermals in the winter, if your planning on holding the rod rather than using a tripod then something with a 2-4 ounce range would be ideal!
Species 2011: Bass (FINALLY), Mullet, Flounder, Mackeral, Pollock, Coal fish.

i have just tested the ian golds range of new rods and the baby of the bunch the enticer is a rod you can hold all day and not get cramps in your arms its about 11ft and is capable of casting a 3oz 150yds it's a lovely little rod which would be great for bass on them beaches.
They will be on sale at the end of the month at very good price for such a quality rod. This is from a report i made the other day.

Report:Got a set of Ian Golds new rods last week to try out ("wow") so i decided to give the smoothies a go on sat myself stephen kris and eamonn headed off in search of glory. we were greeted by a lumpy sea with some weed not good for smoothies however we were on a mission to give the rods a good trashing and we got stuck in.
The first few hours were not good with only a few small whiting, flounders and dabs putting in an appearance which gave us a chance to try out casting the new rods using different styles. I started with the extractor which is the daddy of the set, rung for fixed spool with low rider guides i wound her up and let her fly my initial thought was oh! no i'v cracked off "not a bit of it" it just stripped line off the reel like i have never seen before (" wow" what a rod very similar to the zziplex bullit) there are ten rods in the range five fixed spool and five multiplier they have the best finish i have ever seen on a rod with silver trim on the whippings and rings to match fuji of course.
I had some craic with the baby of the set the enticer while waiting for the smuts to arrive armed with a spinning reel with 10lb braid it made bites from 4in whiting feel like good fish you could stand for hours holding this rod it's so lite.
The first indication that the smuts had arrived was my extractor disappearing out of the stand and a missed fish s**t then eamonn got stuck into one a nice fish of about 6lb then all hell broke loose with missed bites everywhere and rods flying out of stands all over the place thats what you get for yacking and not minding your rod.
we all finished up with a few smuts each and we were very pleased with the new rods they came through a very tough night both being pulled out of the stands, casting and playing good fish.
Here are rod names
Ian Golds
enticer fx/muti
priemier fx/multi
international match fx/multi
super match xtra fx/multi
extractor fx/multi
They also come with a top quality padded rod bag with velcro straps for closing a neat design, Ian Golds has a top quality range of rods here which will equal zziplex in performance and better them in price, they are soon to be launched it will probable be the end of the month.
Kstaff has always been the new black in my eyes anyway!!!!!!!

Indomitable spirit - never giving up or wanting to give up.
