North Down mullet - 05/07/09

#1 Post by KERRY1 »

People: Me and K2

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: High

Rigs: Float

Bait: Bread

Weather: Warm and overcast

Result: 2 mullet

Myself and K2 arrived at the mark. We began looking around us to see if there was any signs of there being fish about.
There were a few showing close to the surface of the water and so we began throwing our bread in near them to see if they were feeding.
A few fish showed an interest in the bait and it wasn't long before we started getting bites. That was all we had though for quite a while (just bites) before the first fish was hooked.
K2 was into one :) It gave a good fight for itself before I got it safely into the net.
A nice fish of about approx. 3.5lb. After taking a picture it was released back in to fight (or get caught) another day!
It was about approx. ten minutes later when I got mine :D again it gave me a good fight as all mullet do anyway.
Again, it was netted, a photo taken and then it was put back in.
It looked like a fish weighing approx. just under 3.5lb.
After that things went quiet, there was a few fish still lurking about but not the numbers there was when we first arrived. With that we decided to call it a day.
We both had another really good days fishing. We left for home very happy indeed
I have uploaded a couple of pictures, they can be seen below.
I can happily admit I am quickly getting addicted to mullet fishing.
When we first started with it, it was just a way for us to occupy ourselves over the summer until we went back down to Co.Kerry again for the Bass, which is what we love to do the most. Now we enjoy our mullet fishing almost as much.
Bring on the next session when hopefully more fish will be around to try and catch (and torture us).
You can be guaranteed we will be there doing our best to get one!

Thanks Colin, it was a good days fishing, you should have been there!
K2 says that there is no way he would ever end up like one of those smug anglers who think they are something, but I agree, he does have a very smug look on his face
He didn't even want his picture put onto the report but I done it anyway!
Yeah, we must meet up again soon for a session (or two or three), when the tides are better which is from approx. Monday 13th July on.

Nice fish for both of you, they look identical size and shape to be honest  , even down to the splits in the tail fin
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

No! Never stop the bass fishing, that's what I love the most :D
I am only fishing for the mullet to keep me occupied over the summer until September when I am going down to Co.Kerry for the bass fishing.
I am a regular visitor down there, I have been there twice this year already staying on average for 12 days at a time and I was there seven times last year as well.
I might at some point upload some of my pictures of the fishing sessions I have had down in that area to show you how good it is and why I love it so much, although I am sure you already know only too well how good it is being from Co.Cork yourself which is not that far away.
The bass fishing down with you in Co.Cork I have heard is really good, I must go down sometime and try it myself.
