Wicklow harbour gurnards 29-06-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, fishface later

Duration:4-10pm

Tide:high at 6pm approx

Weather:fine, calm

Bait:rag, mack squid

Rigs:flappers and mini rigs

Results tub gurnards , tompot blennies, pollock, ballan wrasse, corkwing wrasse, pouting, dabs

Report:Great session at Wicklow Harbour, wasnt going to go again so soon after Fridays session but i was glad i decided to go in the end. I had my usual set up of 1 rod out and 1 in close for minis. There were some guys spinning for mackeral but i only saw 1 mack being landed all day   . I was getting a steady stream of fish all day while a Chinese lad beside me was feathering for macks, and also putting prawns on his feathers trying to catch something. I felt sorry for him and gave him a mini rig and some mackeral and my good deed paid off later on when his wife arrived and presented me with some sliced melon and fried chicken   . I didnt know what was happening till i remembered giving him the bit of gear. Most of the fish were caught on the small rod in close but the beachcaster paid dividends when i reeled in a double of tub gurnards on mackeral   .I also got whiting and dabs on this rod. Lots of minis on the other rod and a decent ballan wrasse of 32cms which was a bit further out and gave a great scrap. This mark has been very good to me lately

I did mention you, dont have a tantrum cos you name isnt in lights   .I'm trying to keep the reports down to a short novel, Wicklow Harbour is turning into a mini series . There again, theres so many characters down there i could turn it into a soap   I can see it now,,,"Wicklow Harbour",,,,,starring Dave O Reilly as Eyesreilly the intrepid angler seeking out new species and Neil Brown as Fishface whos on a mission to keep old jokes fresh in our minds

Have seen lots of Gurnards around wicklow harbour, even breaking the surface chasing spats
of one kind or other, got a 30cm one the other day on feathers, but on the new peir the other peir to the one you usually fish.
