People: Myself and a pal from Dublin for Fridays session and Myself and a pal from Wicklow for Saturdays sesssion

Duration: Fri 22:00-04:30 / Sat 13:00-15:00 / 18:00-19:30 / 21:00-05:30

Tide: All stages

Weather: Great

Bait: Crab, Rag, Lug, Mack, Sandeel, Squid and Lures

Rigs: Various

Results: Dabs, Dogs, Starry Smooth Hounds, Common Smooth Hounds, Whiting...

Report: Friday: A good friend of mine i hadn't fished with for a couple of years wanted a shot at the smuts so plans were hatched we scouted around a few marks in North Wexford i've never seen the beaches in the area so busy seemed like everyone was hunting smuts this weekend :) Settled on a tried and trust mark to try bag my buddie his first ever smut... fishing started off slow enough but once the tide started to slacken off a bit the fish came on the feed plenty of dogs and dabs and whiting   thought i'd seen the last of them some of the whiting were microscopic... smuts weren't playing ball i managed two late on but none for my buddie unfortunately....

Saturday afternoon: With no smut for my mate i tried to cheer him up with a lure caught Bass so off to a spot where a couple of Doubles had been taken on lures the previous weekend.... after some rock climbing we got fishing after about 20mins my mate says this place looks cr@p theres too many kelp beds and rocky outcrops  i tried to tell him it was one of the best spots for lure fishing for Bass but no he wasn't having it so off he went back to the safety of a nearby beach to fish i continued where i was and saw some nice Bass swim by right underneath me tried to get them interested but they looked like they were heading somewhere else with purpose... got back to the beach where my mate was lure fishing away like a man possesed he says to me "you wanna see the size of the Bass that are swiming by huge" .... now do you believe me was my reply.... with that a fish which i put at over 6lbs swims by about 6ft out lures were airborne in the blink of an eye but again no interest...packed up and my mate headed for home...

Saturday evening and Night: Another pal of mine who I haven't fished with since last summer came down we headed off for a spot of lure fishing at a different mark plenty of sandeels here which were swimming in formation behind my mates toby... i had one follow all the way to the end but didn't take... went to pick up some bait then for another smoothie hunt.. again the beaches were busy found a quiet spot that we had to ourselves and setup... first cast my pals rod was pulled out of his tripod and balancing on the stand i grabbed it handed him the rod which was bent right over this was a big un... lined was stripped off the reel a few times then disaster he lost it in the surf.... we were getting big hits on the crab regularly but couldn't hook up... after hours of dogs and more whiting just as it was getting bright we got a run of smuts with 4 landed and few dropped in the space of about 40mins... packed up with we us both happy out... and back to camp for a 6am curry  :) my neighbours in Wexford at this stage think i'm a vampire

Some hours put in there Conor, good to see you getting your reward with the hounds.

Badluck on the big ones you missed.

That lure fishing seem's to be a frustrating side of the sport alright, I'll be doing a bit more myself over the next month or so.

Sorry I couldnt make it down on saturday, but if your down again soon I'll take a couple of days off and get some fishing in with you.
