Fahan Beach 14/06/2009

#1 Post by smicker »

People:Me and club

Date : 14/06/2009

Venue: Fahan Beach

Duration: 15:00 – 20:00

Tide:2hours down and 3 hours up

Weather: Sunshine no wind – overcast windy – thunderstorms and lightning - Sunshine no wind

Bait: Rag, frozen Mack, Bluey

Rigs: clipped down pulley, 2 hook flapper

Results:1 small thornie

Report: arrived at the beach about 14.00 in brilliant sunshine heat and no wind. Beautiful scenery up there, so I took a few snaps and had a chat with fishermanum1 who was also getting set up to fish. Next time I come to Fahan I will leave the bluey at home and bring squid.

Drew peg 1 for the comp, right next to the marina so went down got set up, had a few practise casts and realise I would be glad of the waders to be able to hit the channel.

Comp started and i spent the next four hours alternating mack and bluey on a plain pulley and a pulley with bling and a muppet with nary a bite, watching the anglers on the pegs further along the beach pull in the thornies. For an hour of that time deliberately avoided going near the rod as a thunderstorm was overhead and the beach became a shallow river.

By 7:00 o’clock began to get a bit anxious about a blank so started alternating a 2 hook flapper with Rag and mack and a plain pulley with mack and at approx 7:45 was rewarded by my fisrt ever thornback,
firstthornie.jpg
he may be small but he was mine - photograped and returned to swim away and grow much bigger. Though for all the size of him, i knew he was on the line.

Overall the competition results were good with i think the winner having 7 rays, a variety of fish were caught including gurnard, plaice flounder and mackerel, the first i’d seen off a beach though the 3 pegs next to mine had only a fish apiece.

Hope to get back their soon .
