sligo 2-4th & 15+17th june

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People:me, yorkshire man sometimes and ziggy last night

Duration:most sessions 4 hours at least

Tide: LW first week - on HW second week

Weather: pretty good temp high and v. little rain

Bait: lug, mac, squid, sandeel, bluey

Rigs: 3 hook flappers and pulleys mostly

Results: various - but not great

Report:

hi all

was on strandhill tuesday 2nd evening a blank, just down in front of the car park and then the pool behind where they teach the surfing into darkness HT 9pm approx

weed wasnt bad - seemed fairly shallow - thought a few flounder were a cert....

streedagh wed 3rd 5 flounder – nothing until a few hours into the fill at 12 am then they were on the feed – lugs very successful – one was ~40cm – had a double on a 3/0 pennell good take! yorkshire man got a good fish that night too

would have stayed on but was wrecked but convinced i would have reached double figures if i stayed on

mulloughmore on the elbow 4th - another blank that night – tried on the break water to the seaward side and then moved inside the elbow was a bit windy and i was a bit tired!!! dead calm inside and nothing biting

then back up a few days ago went out to clunagh on the 15th got a flounder on the second cast - then nothing - 4 hours

saw a few sea trout jumping but didnt have any lures with me

sea was very calm - by high water the crabs were stripping baits in 2 mins

on the 17th headed to raghly harbour - on the fill - the weed was pretty bad - no bites at all - dead 5 hours - couple more sea trout were jumping

there were the carcasses of salmon and cod in the harbour which the mullet were at - yorkshire man got a 3-4lb mullet as there was a big shoal on them

we met ziggy who said rosses point is good down near the old lighthouse - but yorkshireman was pretty much like davyp - all hit and miss in sligo

I tend to agree with them both

its mad the difference in fishing east to west

the fish may be bigger in the west but theres far more out east

out last night north of Wicklow – dogs, whiting and dabs galore

Fair bit of dedication there bryan - i'd say your experience would be pretty typical for the region, if my own experince is anything to go by,
at least you got a few in, and theres always the odd day where it really does come together,

nice one on the mullet for MIke - I really must give them a go this year.

Absolutely cracking Bass from the DUblin session - what was that you said about bigger fish on the west coast

anyhow give me a shout next time and I will try and get in touch when ou still have access to yer PC :D

cheers Davy

As Brian said it is very much hit and miss over here but the fish at streedgha has reinvigorated my interest in sligo and the mullet was a bonus on a quite night.
Went to streedgha on thursday got a few flounder but the weed was very bad.
up to the first trip i had never had any confidence in fishing with worms in sligo and had always used Mac sandeel and squid but will now be making the effort to dig a few before each trip .

Always nice to meet people of the site any one else who's ever up this way let me know ,Brian i will see you soon Zeke i will give Rosses one more chance let me now next time your going Davy pm me have something to tell you but dont want to post it
Cheers
mike
