Mullet problems 2!

#1 Post by wilky83 »

Hi i was wondering if anyone could recommend baits apart from bread??
Also i was reading an article by mike ladle and he was using maggots on a fly to catch mullet but i presume this would work if float fished any ideas tips as usual would be greatly appriciated :)

if your having trouble keeping the bread on the hook you can buy some fake stuff in the tackle shops. it looks like a piece of bread but tear off a little bit and it supposedly sticks to the hook very well. just throw some real bread around near where your casting and hopefully the fish wont know the difference. havent tried it myself tho.

Maggots are excellent if the Mullet are feeding on them.... if there's a big bank of decomposing seaweed on the shoreline thats getting washed over when the tide fills you'll have Mullet picking off the maggots in a frenzy ;)

i caught them on maggots last year on the top with a float, use 6-8lbs flurocarbon with a 12-14 hook when using maggot, perfect for mullet, use a coarse waggler flat on the surface and have the hook about 4-5 feet away from your float, do not put split shots down the line obviously athough you probably would get them below the surface float must be heavy and cast beyond the fish and reel back to them put a lot of split shots around the float for casting distance.
