Dalkey Rocks 17/6/09

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Me

9.30-11.30pm

2 hook mini rig, 2 hook boom rig

sandeel, mack, lug

Tide almost fully in, no wind, lovely evening

Scorpion fish, shore rockling, launce, doggie

Meant to head straight after work but had to have a snooze so left it a bit late, tied a pair of mini rigs weighted with 3 drilled bullets and off I went to Dalkey with a light spinning rod and a light telescopic.

Not that many lads set up but sure all the more room for me. Set myself up high on a rock with a good deep crevice below me. I had a cunning plan as they say, so I diced up half a mack fillet and a sandeel into tiny pieces and threw them in at my feet.

Put the mini set up in and got constant bites but no hook ups, Im guessing little wrasse. After a while I got a hook up and got a shore rockling, scorpion fish (new species) double, I've been after one for a while so I was a happy camper. Put the other rod out at a distance to see what was about.

There was a couple of young lads fishing for conger beside me, good lads but they were talking the ear off me, I missed loads of bites and barely had my hooks in the water most of the time!

Reeled in the distance rod to rebait to find what I thought was a giant sandeel had impaled itself side on onto the top hook, I now know it was a launce (new accidental species). Finally then I got a dog out far, always a great battle on super light gear. Time to go home to finish the snooze then.

Again no sniff of macks in Dalkey yet.
