Bangor Pier 16/6/09

#1 Post by Fentster »

People:Me, Auds, Tom and Jonathan

Duration:1 1/2 hrs

Tide:High tide

Weather:Windy, dry.

Bait:mackeral, feathers

Rigs:Me-mackeral on a 2 hook running ledger, boys-casting/drawing feathers, Auds-spinning.

Results:Me-1 pollack, Tom- 1 coalie

Report: Me, Auds (partner) and my two boys (twins, 11) thought we would see if the mackeral were in at Bangor pier. Having seen a few guys there struggling to find any I went off down the harbour wall to look for something else, leaving them on the platform. As soon was I down there I heard a whooping as Tom caught his first ever fish, a small coalie. was delighted for him but Jonny seemed to take the hump, very competitive! I broke my shore duck with a very small Pollack, couldn't believe he took such a large hook. Well at least that's us off the mark, just need to get Jonny a fish now (and Auds too)!

Cheers for that. Having looked at a few pics just now i would definitely say Pouting. That's my first shore (salt) fish ever caught so not that familiar with the various species yet! My previous salt experiences have all been boat based (not many of those either). Only mackeral and whiting previously. Determined to catch a Mullet this year.........

Yeah congrats on your first of many hopefully. There really doesnt seem to be much about Bangor at all although I have heard of a few boys catching macks but again I've yet to see it for myself.

I remember the good auld days when every cast pulled in a species or two :)

Nice one Fenton, good to see the wee ones getting a couple of fish, hopefully it'll not be to long before you get your mullet
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Yeah, I know, very frustrating watching them cruise by with a big smile on their fat lips! A big cigar might be the answer! :D

nice one on the pouting and coalie fenton :P :P :P we were down there for 5 hours today and saw loads of people feathering for mack and not a one landed :| :| :| :| . they seem really late this year. i know a few guys with boats getting them out in the lough at the moment but they are all small and sparcely spread out. it' worth remembering that the NFSA recommended retention size for mackeral is 30cms. so still a while to go yet before getting any worthy of taking home    . drop me a P.M. the next time you're heading out round that way and we'll get a race out with you's and try to put you onto some fish mate
