Not a good idea you need a lot of practice pumping blow lug and by the time you get the hang of it you'll be a old man better off with a fork.
blow lug live in a u shaped burrow and are difficult to extract, bait pumps are far better at getting blacks because of their straight burrow, in saying that blacks are notoriously difficult to pump on the east coast of ireland believe me i have the blisters to prove this.
Kstaff has always been the new black in my eyes anyway!!!!!!!

Indomitable spirit - never giving up or wanting to give up.

hi youngrod, i've been digging lug for the last few weeks with the warm
weather and easily dug 60/70 lug in less than an hour!
more than enough for a few of us to head out once or twice.
twenty mins digging will do you for a session.
dig a 6 foot long trench in the lug beds and start back
at the first dig and work along the trench from left to right,
keep going back to the start until you have enough.
doing this you also backfill the previous trench even though the tide
will level it out! (kids paddling in shallow water might fall!! rare i hope).
if you have any fork-speared lug keep them seperate from the good
ones and use these first, as they will make the good ones go bad very
fast! also storing in the fridge, change the newspaper daily and remove bad ones.
about 15 to 20 per newspaper is good.
keep ya fit too! :) :)
species 2009, whiting :(, three beard rockling,.shore rockling, 5 beard rockling, flounder, lesser spotted dogfish,bullhuss, dab,bass(13), more whiting : pollock,poorcod,pouting, sea trout(the dodder!)brown trout,sea scorpion,mackerel, silver eel,
topknot:), cod, conger, corkwing wrasse, smooth hound.
