Connemara.. 13/6/009

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:me fein agus nige

Duration:er.. about 6 hours

Tide:over high

Weather: calm with slight southerly

Bait:sandeel macl and squid

Rigs:various

Results:loads a fish

Report: its been a long while since i've done one of these report things so it may take me a while....

headed out with nige to one of our marks.. it took me a while to navigate through the field, knee still not right.. well i suppose surgery will help, whenever that happens.. anyways back to the report.. finally made it to the mark, and set up .. cast out and slowly waited.. and it wasnt within 10 mins i had a bite.. woohoo.. looking good as i reeled in, ray for first cast not too bad.. but alas it came off the hook just as i was about to land it.. oh no... bait back on and out again.. soon after nige was into a whiting.... i think it must have forgot to go home after the winter.. a few whiting and doggies later we got a txt from salty and 'the stig' with them both holding pictures of ray..
so back to fishing... a few doggies later and what looked like a doggie bit for me turned out to be somthing a bit more substantial.. yipppeee.. a ray.. big one too, it even took line on me as i was reeling it in.. so off down the rocks nige went to help lift it out.. (i only had a 10lbs snood on) so a quick un hook weigh (8lbs 2oz) a few pics and back in the water it went.. also sent salty and 'the stig' a pic of it.. strangly enough we didnt hear back from them???
a few more doggies later and it was nige's turn.. so i slowly made my way down the rocks to be met by not only a ray, but another suicidal whiting.... a quick unhook of the whiting and back into the water, and lifted the ray up the bank for the unhooking and pics and weighed in at just over 5lbs... then it was back to doggies again.. then the midges started to come in plague proportions :S to back to the car.. and in good time too as it poured out of the heavens on the way home...

total catch
me: 1 ray 6 dogfish 5 whiting
nige: 1 ray 4 dogfish 4 whiting 1 mackerel...

yeah, just a tad, I'd usually use 15lbs flouro but i had used the last of it and only had 10lbs flouro.. hence why i sent nige down the rocks to pick upi the ray for me, but if you play a fish right you can use even lighter line again just expect to play the fish for a while
