White Rock 9-6-09

#1 Post by nicefish »

People: Me

Duration: 11:30pm-8-30am

Tide: In-Out

Weather:nice

Bait: Worst Ragworm I ever used

Rigs: 2 hook one up 1 down

Results: 2 small Pollock 1 small Flounder 1 G sandeel

I decided to go to White Rock for the night, my mate picked up some so called Rag for me  I think 3 of them were alive when I opened the box they looked like a Curry that was left lying for a few days. I wont have anymore dealings with this well know tackle shop on the North side as certain individual tried to rip me off twice before. The fishing was not great just a few small fish but I enjoyed a nice night out, beautiful Moon at 11:30 :D some things never change.

Anto

Thats very annoying about the bait alright but at least you didnt blank, theres nothing worse than only realising when you get to the beach that you bait is past it. Its happened to me a couple of times but its been my own fault, using up left over bait. I normally get my bait in either Southside, Viking or Courtown depending on where I'm going and I've never had a problem with the bait from any of them.

I got four boxes of rag on Monday. They were way beyond their best but he gave them to me for free. I'll go back, if I'd bought them I wouldn't.

I'd echo what dave said.

I got a load of rag from the same shop last summer, headed all the way down to south wicklow and was mighty disappointed when I opened the bait boxes to see mushy rag, but given the distance we had travelled to fish we had to make do with it.

I went in to complain the next day and he wasnt prepared to do anything about it, he said I should have brought the bait back, hardly likely at 7pm and after a 2 hour drive down south

Needless to say I have since taken my business elsewhere, so for the sake of a few poxy boxes of bait, he's lost a great deal of business....his loss not mine :!:

I guess the warning to all reading this is to check your bait in the shop.

Anyway, at least you got a few fish for your trouble

My mate picked the Rag for me just before shop closed,so i didn't see the rag till i got to White Rock after 11pm and that's going by train. I had no choice but to start fishing as I would have missed the last train. I will do the same as you Mark,he can stuff his bait as i will go elsewhere.

nice result all things considered. I've walked down there a few times but never fished it. What type of ground are you fishing on? Was thinking of a session on Saturday.

Just out from the big rock there is a nice clear area there.

Thanks mate, I'll put up a post to let you know how it went. Was thinking of using Sprat as well as the usual rag and mack. Have seen a pack of 10 fresh ones for sale in the local Polish food shop!

bait in the tackle shop is kept in a fridge if you dont keep it in a cool box in this weather it goes to mush very quickly, had the same problem with stuff i dug myself last week ,have had crap from lots of shops too and always have a peek before i drive off  dont be shy and always check it ,it,s hard enough getting a few fish on good bait never mind mush

Just to echo what Rodger said lads, I'll always check the bait. If it's not great I'll ask for a swap or I'll leave it.
