Donaghadee pier, Co Down, 08/06/09

#1 Post by vamper »

People:Me

Duration:2100 - 0030

Tide:rising

Weather:dry, breezy

Bait:mack, sandeel, rag

Rigs:3 hook flappers

Results:3 coalie, 2 shore rockling (new species :D ), long spined sea scorpion, doggie

Report:

Called into a local tackle shop during the week, and picked up 2 velcro rod rests which attach to pier railings. Have to say that they are a very good job, and definitely stop the rods for sliding down the railing in a breze. Well worth the money

Anyway, enough about that, lets get down to the fishing

Arrived at the Dee to find my favourite spot free, so set up both rods on 3 hook flappers with mack, and after about 15 minutes got a coalie which was around 1lb. A guy who had been fishing off the back of the pier started to pack up, and gave me a bag of rag which he had left over. In came both rods, and the rag went straight on!

I got into a shore rockling almost straight away, and after that the fishing was slow but steady, with 2 more coalies, another rockling and a sea scorpion making appearances The crabs were keeping me busy  , and I reckon that for every fish landed, I must have reeled in about 5 times only for the "fish" (crab   ) to come off before the surface.

It all went quiet about 11, but I rounded the night off with a decent sized doggie caught on mack.

I dont know if the guy who gave me the rag is on the forum, but if you are, cheers mate :) :) . I will have to repay the favour sometime

All in all, a good session, considering how the Dee has been fishing lately

Will try to get some pictures up later

Hi Vamper,

Actually it was me who gave you the rag, glad you had better luck than me with it.
