glenarm beach/breakwater 5th/7th june

#1 Post by JULIO RAGWORM »

people- me, kenny
duration- 4hrs both days
weather- friday: 15 mph NE, but dry. sunday: light wind and sunshine
bait- rag and mack
rigs- pulley rigs, 2/3 hook flappers
results- Friday; me 4 flounder, a codling and a scorpion fish. kenny 2 flounder
Sunday;me 2 doggies, 1 wrasse. kenny 2 codling, 3 doggies.

Decided to give Glenarm breakwater a bash on Friday but the place was crawling with fishermen quite a few polish, i thought id mention this as I had fished here last year around this time and every fish they caught regardless of size was threw into a plastic bag they had which I think is a disgrace  but to make me even more confused one of them caught a decent sized lobster and then threw it back :? the mind boggles, however, so headed over to the beach the weed being washed up due to the wind was frustrating to say the least but none the less we didnt have too bad a night. Nothing of any great note though. So headed up again on sunday to hopefully get on the breakwater and we did and as usual the doggies are always on the feed here, apart from a ball foundering night back in feb I have always caught of the breakwater. I caught a small ballen wrasse after a misguided cast due to the ammount of midges in my ears, eyes, nose and mouth  and ended up 50 yards to the right of where I was aiming. We where getting loads of bites from smaller fish but dare not go lower than a 1/0 hook due to the doggies. Anyhow it was good to get back into it. I know the codling where of no size but I was glad to see them hopefully this is a sign of things picking up.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

2010- Sea Trout, Codling, Pollock, Coalie, Whiting, Flounder, Doggies, Plaice, Dab.

know what your saying about the poles , but 99% of them are dead on ,they are brought up diff from us , we (in the north ) wer'nt invaded by hitler and then had to live under russia so food was a problem and that has carried down, I do not agree with the way they fish , tell them,

Eddie said '' who needs to complain about the trawlers when you have poles fishing ''

Now that's a bit racist !

Down here we have Brazilians outfishing us with their barbecues by their sides. All caught is cooked and gobbled up with rapidity.

What about Irish trawlermen and their quotas, now there's a real story. Would suspect that other nation's trawlermen do their paperwork in similar fashion.

nice one aaron :P good to see you both got a few fish. i've never fished the breakwater myself, but any time we're going past there always seems to be someone fishing it. does any one fish from inside the harbour??? we had a look around it and saw the no fishing sign by order of larne borough council. i take it that's why the outside of the breakwater is always busy :?:

What have Hitler and the Russian got to do with fishing here? They are greedy and uncaring and just take over where they go. I am not being racist, but they have no excuse for taking the small fish they do, if we all did that there would be very little left for anyone. If you try to tell them to put the small ones back they become abusive, but we all know what they are like. I just hope that they go home very soon.

Lads we've had this debate numerous times at this stage.... if there is anything illegal going on report it to the relevant fisheries board... if not there's not much you can do only try and lead by example and educate through your actions.... not all Eastern Europeans are Polish either not saying this group weren't but just something to bear in mind..

Mod edit: This thread has gone way off topic like i said above if your not happy with whats going on and it's illegal report it.... try to keep personal opinions on ethnic groups off public forums....
