Painted rock, Co. Antrim 07-06-2009

#1 Post by rab01 »

People:Me and Tommy

Duration:8.30am-12.30pm

Tide:Rising

Weather:Sunny with a cool northerly breeze

Bait:Ragworm and mackerel

Rigs:Various

Results:Me-1 mackerel Tommy-1 Doggie

Report:Not too much to report here lads, was very slow fishing as my last couple of sessions have been. Anyway we arrived at painted rock and we setup two rods each. I cast out a 3 hook flapper at distance with one rod and done a bit of spinning with the other. After a few casts on the spinning rod i hooked into something decent very close in, seen a silver bar in the water and thought for a split second i had a bass on but when i got it to the surface i was surprised to see a mullet had took my krill lure!! Thats a first for me, hooking a mullet on a spinner. The scrap was short-lived as in typical mullet fashion it threw the hook. At least this was something to get excited about. Another couple of casts and i hooked into my first mackerel of the season. Another 2-3 casts later i was in again, another mackerel which fell off as i was lifting him out of the water. I thought great we'll have a bit of sport with the macks but it wasn't to be. Tommy then saved a blank with a doggie. I fished this mark in June last year and had great sport with plenty of wrasse and pollock. I really hope the fishing picks up soon. Good not to blank all the same.

ive been spinning myself a few times round about there over the past 2 weeks, its a little slow at the minute but ive caught quite a few pollock and coalie, the only spinner that is really working for me is a 1 oz greenfish nothing else in my box has taken a fish. The place also has quite a few sea trout hopefully get myself one this year.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

2010- Sea Trout, Codling, Pollock, Coalie, Whiting, Flounder, Doggies, Plaice, Dab.

I've caught a seatrout from there earlier in the season. Good mark, plenty of species available.
