North Down mullet 30-5-09

#1 Post by Davy Murdoch »

People:me and my 7 year old son(and a couple of spectators from my local tackle shop)

Duration:1.5hrs

Tide:filling

Weather:sunny

Bait:bread what else

Rigs:float

Results:1 small mullet,at last 8)

Report:Had my son with me today but have been dying to get good weather so i can have a decent crack at the mullet so i took him mullet fishing instead of to the cinema or something else less excitng
we headed to the mark colin fished yesterday(instead of working) to try to catch the best stage of tide.
from the minute i arrived at the waters edge i saw fish, lots and lots of fish!!!!
i left matthew to run riot up and down the beach while i waded out 100yards or so to meet the fish.within 5 mins i spotted mullet taking bread but they were small fish of 1-2lb. i didn`t care cos i just wanted to get my 1st mullet of the year in the bag..
there was a few hundred fish in the area,75 percent of them were 1-3lb but there was a hell of alot of big fish around so i was glad i came :D
its been a long time since i watched so many mullet taking every bit of bread that hit the water.its a pity they dont feed like that all the time.
i had countless fish nibble at my bread but none of them would take it properly. it took an hour for me to get a solid bite which resulted in a small mullet of 1.5lb :D happys days first mullet of the year.that was just about the end of the short session and the wee man was starting to get bored wrecking the beach so i called it a day....
no pictures this time, atleast not on my camera, the spectators took a quick photo before i released it..

watch out colin now i`ve started there`ll be no stopping me   same time 2moro mate :D

best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

I get the ideas from people who say things like "i think im gonna be the sea trout king this year as well as the mullet king" and then they start to fail miserably
Mate im just happy with the fish i caught yesterday and anything after that is a bonus.I just hope we get the same conditions 2morro

It's great to hear that you are off the mark and that you have caught your first mullet of the season Davy, before the start of June too, great as it is still early in the season.
Now you just have to go out there and make sure you catch more than everyone else who you fish with, mainly Colin who I see likes to rub it in when he has caught more than you!
Tight lines. 8)

Hi Davy, well, how's the mullet fishing going then?
Have you managed to catch anything else since your first fish last weekend?
The weather seems to be affecting the fishing which is a real pain.
Are you going out again to give it ago at the weekend or are you going to give it a break.
You don't seem like the type of person to give up that easy.
Maybe I will join you some night and give it a go, you never know, I might bring you some luck! (Not that I am saying you need it)
