Clare Dragoon, Carrigaholt 30-31 May 09

#1 Post by jw »

People: jw plus 5 lads from cabra sea fishing club

Duration: 2 days

Tide: comes and goes

Weather: sub tropical

Bait: mackerel, launce and rags

Rigs: all of them

Results: pollack, ballans, cuckoo, ling, dogs, whiting, pouting, coalie, poor cod, haddock, thornbacks

Report: According to the old people if the basking sharks are close to
loop head in april then we will have a sunny june and july, which seems to be true.

The water temp is up to 14 degrees and there are plenty of whitefish about. We tried tope fishing
on the beal bar for an hour either side of low water and did not get a single tope run

thanks, i was also interested to hear that a tope tagged on the clare dragoon last year was
recaptured off portugal and a blue shark off the cape verde islands. Remarkable journeys
and a reminder the stock of fish in the atlantic ocean is finite
