Wexford all nighter 31/5/09

#1 Post by bigsod »

People:Tony and me fein

Duration:8pm untill 6:30am

Tide:down and up

Weather:perfect

Bait:Crab, rag, lug, mack, sandeel

Rigs:Pully rigs, single clip down, and 3 hook flappers

Results:Dogs, whiting, dabs, and 1 small smoothie

Report:With reports of smoothies along the wexford coast we decided to try and get in on the action.First port of call saw pleanty of dabs on the 3 hook flapper and dogs on the pully rigs out at distance, good sport but not what we were after so we decided on a move a short way down the road. The next spot saw even more numbers with a good few trebels on the rod in closer, and the dogs devouring the crab baits at distance. The crab had hardly hit the water when the tell tale doggie bites started leaving no chance for any smoothies that may have been around to snaffle our baits.I decieded to have a power nap about half three and was woken up by Tony a few minutes later with a small smoothie about 35 cm, so i hopped up smashed out a crab bait and yea you guessed it......another doggie and another and another, think we ended up with over 70 dogs between us, with large numbers of dabs also, one even taking a whole crab on a 3/0.At half six we admitted defeat, while we got our target species it was hardly a record breaker so more time will be put in in the quest for some good size smuts, but at least we were kept busy and and the sunrise was worth the sleepless night in its self.Cant wait for the next session and with a bit of luck a few smuts.

Wow! Great fun. I could imagine reeling in 70 doggies... must have been a lot out there. May drive down there one day. Our team, me and my kids wanted to get to experience reeling in doggies.

:D

Well done and good luck on your hunt for the great smoothie...

In Wexford were yis!

I had no gear with me. Again I packed car seats buggies and the likes I had no room. I called my brother to see was he coming down so he could collect my gear. He had camped out in Brittas Bay. He woke to find his van in flames. Some sick "James Blunt" torched his van. It was completely burnt out. He lost some tools and all his fishing gear. Everything!

The poor lad is gutted. Can't work until he sorts new van out and all the stuff he had built up for fishing is completely gone!

I have a few bits and bobs there also that I never use. They arent top of the range gear or anything. I have a daiwa long beam 12ft rod that has seen daylight once I will bring down with me in 3 weeks for him.
