bray harbour 31-05-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:8-30pm-12pm

Tide:dropping

Weather:mild, calm

Bait:rag,squid ,mack

Rigs:flappers , luminous rigs

Results:flounder, 5 dabs, loads of whiting

Report:Decided to fish Bray Harbour into dark and not waste my time daylight fishing again   . Walked down the pier and there were a couple of chinese guys fishing and one irish :!: :!: guy(not sure cos he never looked at or acknowledged me :? :? ). Set up 2 rods and the big one was nodding as i set up the light one, looked promising   . True to form, the first catch was a crab  , but thats the usual here so i wasnt surprised. The guy near me got a bite and pulled on the rod with all his might, i was expecting to see a pair of fish lips on the end of the hook  but he landed a dab. I got a flounder soon after and i have to say i had one of the most enjoyable nights fishing ever.

No big or rare fish, apart from the ten bass(only joking  )but bites all night with a steady stream of dabs and whiting being landed. I had to put the big rod away as the two rods were going at the same time, a good complaint, but i decided that i'd have more sport on the light spinning rod, 2 hook flapper and 2 oz weight.

On the other pier a good natured gang of teenagers were listening to the radio and singing along. Whiting were there in numbers and the bait was being attacked as soon as it hit the water. As dusk fell i tried a luminous set up on the 2 hook flapper, dont know if it made a difference as i was catching without it but it was nice to see the lights as i reeled in and shone my headlamp down to see the fish chasing the bait   . The dabs made the whiting onslaught bearable and on one cast i got 2  .

On the down side i was disappointed
to see the chinese guys throwing all their plastic bags ,cans and other rubbish into the sea as they left. I told them there was no need to do it as there were bins down the other end. They said they didnt understand but they got the message. Later on about 10 chinese guys arrived with lights and i thought i might be going for a swim but they were collecting some kind of food from the pier walls. They had bait in bags dropped down the side and when i went for a nosey they couldnt understand either :? :? , but it looked like a big operation. I left at midnight with the fish still biting but i had to stop sometime. I tried mack chunks for a doggie or two but the dabs were going for them too.
ps, most of the dabs were caught at low tide.
Dave

Nice to be kept busy and fair play for pointing out the litering to the lads, amazing the ammount of rubbish left behind people especialy on pier marks for some reason.Did you for a seccond think all the chinese guys were coming down to sort you out after pointing out their mates flaws, but i suppose they would have needed 20 taking the "eyes" stare into account
