dalkey area dublin 29th may 09

#1 Post by rustyhookthomas »

People:me and collie

Duration:7pm-11pm

Tide:lw 9:40pm ish

Weather:warm with a sudden mist/fog that cleared

Bait:lug,mac and razor

Rigs:mix

Results:whiting :( dab, cod!!! dog and topknot!

Report:we had this session planned all week but where, we didn't know.
i even dug lug during the week, 70+ worms in less than 40min.
anyway headed out and got started around 7.
there were guys spinning to our right not catching and guys to our left bait fishing but not
very busy, tide dropping and no fish being caught, wasn't looking good.
collie kicked off with a few whiting and then dabs, dabs and then whiting for me.
then close in i hooked what looked like a weird lemon sole, but had a huge mouth!
it was a topknot! my first ever in over 35years fishing :):)! popped him back and several dabs
and whiting later i got a nice knock of a small cod great scrap, pic taken and back he went
first one this year :) we both finished up with a couple of dogs just around 11pm.
great evenings fishing, can't wait for my next trip

Great work on the topknot,

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/pages/topknot.html

Cant remember seeing one reported on the site here since I joined early last year.

Definately a feather in the cap with that catch

Huge looking mouth on them, similar to turbot

Well done on the Topknot and from Dalkey no less, they're as rare as hens teeth. I think I've only heard of one or maybe two caught in the last couple of years, very rare fish indeed. Well you certainly did better than I did anyway, I was out in the same spot earlier in the evening but got nothing so I decided to try the back of Bullock Harbour only to greeted by half of Dublin's emergency services. I didn't know what was going on but apparently a young lad had fallen down a gulley between the rock whilst trying to jump across and by the sounds of things was in a bad way, :( they were a long time trying to get him out so I hope he is OK. :| Needless to say I didn't get to do any fishing there and in the end it was glad to get a few whiting in Bray Harbour to save the blank. In retrospect maybe I should have stayed put in Dalkey and tried for some rare as hens teeth rock dwelling flatfish. Well done again Thomas on your rare and unusual catch. :D

Good session, things seem to be looking up in Dalkey at last, I thought it was the small hooks still catch the big fish not vice versa! ;)
