Question about tides!

#1 Post by JimmyS »

I was just looking at the north wall tides info there, just want to clarify something as I am seeing conflicting times..

For today - thursday 28th May we have;

02:59 4.2M
08:49 .5M
15:38 3.8M
21:06 .9M

are these accurate? do we need to adjust the hour for GMT?

If I want to calculate tides for dun laoaghire or dalkey, wil they be much the same or do I need to add / subtract an hour or so??

thanks guys

Hi, Generally all tides are quoted as GMT, so during summer time, add 1 hour, But, if its a local tide table booklet, they may well have added that hour, it should state this on the document you got the info on.
"Easytide. ukho.gov.uk "is a great free way to check out the tide times round ireland for up to seven days in advance, they are GMT times , but you can click a box and add the hour

the tide table you are using is bang on time low 21.06. no need to adjust.

Dunlaoghaire is about 10 minutes before 20.55 :wink:

Hi Jimmy

I use to fish a lot for mackeral in Dun Laoghaire when I was younger and always found an hour before high tide the best.
I was down in Colimore myself on Sunday about 5pm and got nothing. Down there again this morning for 1 hour nothing again (it was bloody freezin). Both times where the dropping tide so I think I'll take my own advice the next time.
