Report: This is my first report so go easy on me. Firstly super website and has already been so helpful in getting me started! Well done to all!
Finally bought myself a shore rod and after trawling through this website got the necessary bits and bobs together to assault the sea. I've fished the inland rivers all my life for Trout & Salmon & the odd Pike and since moving nearer to the coast I've decided to see what this Sea fishing lark is all about. After some fun trying to set up the rig I evenutally cast out, not expecting too much, I guess 50 yards or so. What seemed like two minutes later the Rod tip gave a jump and I struck into my first fish. I couldn't believe my luck! In came a nice little dogfish at a guess 20 inches. I was glad I had a disgorgers! When I left in the dark at half eleven or so I had counted 6 in total and had missed as many more.
Can I ask the pro's out there is this an good/average/poor haul on an evenings shore fishing? Didn't see a sign of any other species though but now I think the hunt is on! I might get hooked on this lark yet! For info all fish fell to the mackeral none to the rag and all returned alive to the sea.

Well done! On my standards that is a good haul. I have always wanted to catch some doggies in order to experience the difference ways the species fight! No luck up to now. Maybe its due to where I am casting. So far mostly Dab and Whiting are common on my catch. Good luck and have fun.

kilcoole ,mackrel and dogfish
sounds like you got it right
your rag should go on small hooks size 2,s and cast out 10 or 15 feet on the rise the flats are normally close in on kilcoole as its quite a deep beach
