Ballyholme Beach 09/05/2009

#1 Post by smicker »

People:Me and club (+14)

Date : 09/05/2009

Venue:Ballyholme beach

Duration: 18.30 – 23.30

Tide:high water approx 23:00

Weather:intermittent light rain/ Sunshine no wind

Bait: Rag, Mack, Sandeel, frozen softback crab

Rigs:2 hook flappers, 2 hook clipped down

Results:blanket blank

Report:Apologies for the delay in the report my health suffered when i had 2 teeth pulled out and then took a dry socket infection then i had some computer problems but here it is and the summary is don’t fish Ballyholme.

Arrived at 18.30 as i was running late due to having to pick the wife up from work at 5:45. Set up and spent the next 5 hours stripping untouched bait and casting and mostly telling people you do catch some fish in the sea and if your dog starts snaffling bait it might pick up a baited trace so maybe it should be on the lead as per the council.
Tried all the baits alone and in combination both close flappers with loads of bling and distance (for me) with clipped down rigs. I think there were no fish at the yacht club end of the beach and the most excitement was moving all the gear up onto the promenade as high tide approached.

Overall 6 fish were caught – dogs, coalies, flounder, with most seeming to be coming from the middle of the beach. No angler caught more than one.

Not much comming of the beach like there should be, id say the middle section would be best with the small river flowing there! Was that the comp i seen a while ago?

Saturday night about 3 weeks ago, there was a lot of spectators. All the fish came from the middle section.
