luminous light at the tip of the rod?

#1 Post by simplywabs »

Folks,

Another dummy question from me. I saw a couple of anglers last week when we were fishing at night and they have this small luminous thing that they tape-on at the tip of their rods so they can easily spot it when there's a bite at night. What do you call those and can they be bought as well on tackle shops?

It looks like the ones that my kids are playing with but what my kids have are longer. What I saw from them are just about an inch long.

Thanks,
WABS

The Lidl starlights certainly are great value, I got a couple of boxes of them last time they had them in. You can get them in any tackle shop but as the lads already pointed out, they can be a little pricey. Alternately I suppose you could just use a headlamp and put some reflective tape on your rod tip.

Veals online shop have them too. Not as cheap as Lidl but still a lot cheaper than takle shops.

Be careful in there; it's easy to get carried away. Fishing porn!

dont waste your time with starlights, their fidly, none reusable and can be problematic as regards to line getting caught around them while casting, get yourself some quality reflective tape instead

i used the chemical lights for a while, then moved to the tip lights and then onto the tip tape. its much better than the lights. i paid 2.50 for it and it did 2 rods so its cheaper than the others too.
the chemical lights are handy to have in the box tho. if your not catching much put one onto the snood about an inch or 2 above the hook. ive had a few flats and doggies doin this when nothing else was happening. the 2 guys who laughed at me for trying it blanked so i had the last laugh

I used to buy them from here,

http://www.glosticks.co.uk/-c-54.html

available in a range of colours at under £7 per 100.

They last about 8 hours and if you only use them for a couple of hours then freeze them and they will do another session.
i get by with a little help from my friends.

they arent bad on the tip of the rods, but if you get a few packs pop one on to your snood too, deadly for pollack and doggies.
